HERE IT IS FELLOW HORROR ENTHUSIASTS!
-Top 10 Greatest Horror T.V. Shows of ALL Time-

With a little help from our friends at Cinema Suicide and IMDb, which has the latest on all things T.V. & Movies, I was able to put together a list of the top 10 greatest horror television shows of all time. I hope all of my fellow viewers enjoy this as much as I did!

  1. The X-Files
    • Created by: Chris Carter
    • This series follows the lives of FBI special agents, and is the kind of T.V. show that will keep you up at night and is notorious for its theme music.
    • Noted as Science Fiction Drama, the series started in 1993-2002 with 9 seasons and 202 episodes.

  1. Twilight Zone
    • Created by: Rod Sterling
    • Each episode usually contained a plot twist with an obvious moral to each episode. Themes include but are not limited too: nuclear war, mass hysteria, McCarthyism.
    • There was 156 episodes from 1959-2002

  1. Tales from the Crypt
    • Created by: William Gaines
    • This show based on a 1950's comic series was rated TV-MA because it was aired on HBO, therefore it was able to be uncensored and allowed to contain graphic violence throughout the whole series. There was a lot of gore, nudity, profanity and sexual encounters.
    • 7 seasons aired from 1989-1996 containing a total of 93 episodes.

  4. Kolchak: The Night Stalker
    • Created by: Jeff Rice
    • This series aired on ABC from 1974-1975.
    • Kolchak: The Night Stalker featured a fictional Chicago news reporter, Carl Kolchak, who investigates the mysterious crimes of the super natural. This is placed in the Science Fiction/Horror Category.

 5. Dark Shadows
    • Created by: Dan Curtis
    • Best known as an American Gothic soap opera that aired on ABC from 1966-1971 containing 1,225 episodes and is regarded now as a classic by being the first to introduce a long narrative soap to horror history.
    • This series had a slow start gaining the attention of America, but the series eventually took off and got extremely popular when they added Vampires, Zombies, Witches and Ware-wolves to the horror soap.

 6. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    • Created by: Joss Whedon
    • This T.V. series follows protagonist Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, as slays vampires (pretty self explanatory i'd say... LOL). Even so, this series was a great hit with young Americans especially.
    • This show aired from 1997-2003 reaching up to 6 million viewers at one point and winning three Emmy's.

 7.Twin Peaks
    • Created by: Mark Frost & David Lynch
    • Follows the investigation of the murder of a popular high school student/ homecoming queen. This series was very short lived only airing 30 episodes from 1990-1991 because after this series audience found out who murder was many viewers fell off from the show.
    • This show is best categorized as mystery, psychological thriller and dealing with the super natural.

 8. Fringe
    • Created by: J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci
    • This series follows the FBI as they deal with the supernatural. It has been described by saying this series mimics the X-Files, Altered States & Twilight Zone.
    • There is 89 episodes from 2008-present and was nominated for many awards. I got the chance to see an episode from this series and I found that it drew me in very quickly.

 9. American Horror Story
    • Created by: Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk
    • Created just last year in 2011, the first season follows the Harmon family as they unknowingly move into a haunted mansion. The second season taking place this year has all new cast and is taking place in an insane asylum.
    • This show seems very promising and is aired on FX. If your looking for a more recent horror television show this is a AWESOME pick!

 10.Doctor Who

    • This is a British science fiction program produced by the BBC. This is also a newer series going from 2005 to present, containing a total of 789 episodes.
    • This show follows a time lord who is a time traveling, human-like alien known as the doctor.

  1. This is a very interesting list. I agree with The X-Files being at number one, and should be followed by Twin Peaks, which set the bar for genre television. Fringe could have gone a little higher as well. Doctor Who, even at 10, doesn't really belong on the list. I can see why you put it on there ("Blink" speaks for itself) but it's not inherently a horror series, it's a fantasy show. The River and The Walking Dead are two recent shows that could also fit on this list.

  2. Thanks for the feedback! I was skeptical also about Doctor Who, but the creepy factor made me want to give it a spot. I haven't heard of The River but i'll be sure to give it a peek now. And I could definitely see The Walking Dead deserving a place on this list, but since it didn't make it we can give it an honorable mention as well as Friday the 13th the series!
